Are Kellogg's Cereals Really 'Made in USA'?

I went to the Kellogg's Cereals website today to ask where their cereals are made.  I'm not the first to ask obviously.  It was actually one of the frequently asked questions.  Here is what is stated there, followed by my specific question to the Kellogg's Consumer Service Dept.  I'll let you know if I get a response from them.

Question:
How can I tell where your products are made?
Answer:
If a product is manufactured in a country other than the USA, it will be printed on the package above 'Distributed by Kellogg Sales Co.' For example, if a product is made in Canada, the package will state 'Product from Canada'. If the package does not contain that statement, the product was manufactured in the USA. We do not manufacture any of our products in China.

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide the city and state in the USA where the product is made since that is proprietary/confidential information.

Our company is committed to consistently providing consumers with products of the highest quality. We have rigid sanitation standards that are closely adhered to in all facilities where our products are manufactured, whether the plant is located in the USA or another country. In addition, Kellogg Quality Assurance personnel regularly visit our plants and suppliers to assure that proper procedures are being followed.

All our operations must meet Kellogg Company standards, which often exceed government standards. We take great pride in the fact that our facilities are clean and technologically advanced and that Kellogg people are strongly committed to producing products of the highest quality regardless of their location.

Here is what I specifically ask Kellogg's:
I read your statement in regards to "How can I tell where your products are made." You indicate that the cereals are made in the U.S.A. unless you state they are made somewhere else. If that is so, why do you not state "Made in USA" or "Product of USA" on the box?  I prefer to buy American-made products when I can. I like many of the Kellogg's cereals and would feel better about buying them if I knew they were made here in the U.S.  Thank you for your response.

  1. I bought a box of Kelloggs Red Berries and it stated product of Mexico, the next box I looked at did not say that just that it was distributed by Battle Creek Michigan. Like you I don't trust where their cereal comes from anymore. I will only buy American made unless it is totally impossible to not get it made here.

  3. That's interesting. If Kellogg's is made in the US, let them print it on the box. Until they do, I and my seven children and nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren will buy other cereals that we know are made in the United States. Battle Creek, Michigan was where the Kellogg Cereals used to be made. Is that closed?

  9. I also am confused...how can someone sell any products these days without stating the country of origin? This should be illegal...how can the Canadian government sell food to the public without stating the origin? I don't care where head office is and where it's imported to, I would like to know where it's made. I will not purchase these products either.

  10. I quit buying Kellogg brownie bars when I saw they are made in Mexico. I emailed Kellogg with the comment that I won't buy their products from Mexico. They probably think I'm small potatoes, but I used to buy 12 boxes of their bars a month, and now...zero. I also emailed General Mills about the country of origin of their fiber bars and got an evasive answer. I'm sticking with other brands like Mom's cereal that are made in the US. I'm sick of this corporate greed and let the CEO's and their families eat the stuff.

  12. All food should be clearly marked where it was grown, made or packaged. At tax time we should be able to take the receipts from all the USA manufactured and assembled goods that we have purchased and get a tax refund!

  16. I was disappointed and dismayed to read that Special K cereal was made in Mexico. I have been eating Kellog's cereals for 74 years and will now look for alternatives. The recent recall of Honey Smacks is a result of third party manufacturing. God knows where that's produced. Very sad indeed that this "all American Company" now sends production to third world countries where standards do not measure up to the U.S.A. Add to this the loss of American jobs.
Kellog's is not "making America Great Again"...

  18. I don't understand how these company's like Kelloggs and Hershey etc... Take their businesses to Mexico or China to save money but charge more for their product! Greed!!!! I will only buy Made in the U.S.A.

  19. Many products from many companies have been moved to Mexico, Vietnam and so on. The quality is not as good or the product not as well made as that which is made in the U.S.
Extra sugar is added to the products from outside the U.S. to provide that traste appeal and addiction.
Further, the food and food safety standards are not subjuect to U.S. manufacturing standards.
I know much of this as I worked for Kellogg's in the frozen division, which they closing in the U.S. and moving to Mexico and at least one known co-packer in Michigan, for now. The co-packer is Roskam.
Kraft (Mondelez) has moved much of the oreo and some other production to Mexico. As a consumer, having not looked at numerous packages which my my wife purchased over a six month period, I found the taste stale and unappealing. After a reminder at work regarding purchasing Oreo products made in Mexico, I looked at the packages and found indeed, they were from Mexico.
Kellogg's has cereal facilties in Memphis, Grand Rapids, Ohio (If I remember correctly) and I think one other location. Rome, Ga. has Rice Krispies treats, many now made in Mexico and not as good as the product from Rome.
AUgusta, Ga. is snacks, cookies, etc. There are amny locations which are closing as Kellogg's moves production to third world countries.
Eggo waffles will no longer be made in the U.S. except for the co-pack unit at Roskam. All else will be made in Mexico.
Kellogg's attempted to close the Memphis plant, illegally and was slapped fairly hard for that, but it WILL close.
Sara Lee IS a Mexican company now. Bimbo Bread.
Food demands are high. It is difficult to feed the population without processing and extending food with additives.
I do not agree with it. That for now, is what it is.
Farming will return at some point in a larger manner, likely with smaller farms combined with the larger farms.
If people ask and insist our food is grown here that will be a ver, very good start.

  20. The gov changed the labeling laws a while back. Instead of 'made in' they can now just say 'distributed by.' Crackers, cookies, cereals...many Mexico made.

Eventually Mexico will control the USA. In the future NY and CA will decide the elections. Mexico already controls the vote in CA. CA can control D.C.through lawsuits. So Mexico already has power over D.C. So better be nice to Mexico as it is your future.

CA was lost over greed and capitalism. Cheapest labor = most profit. Illegals are the answer. America will eventually be lost...from greed.

  21. After all this COVID19 pandemic I would like the corporations have "transparency" and have the packaging be specific where it is made. Since all this I've been trying to find products made in the USA and they seem to be few and far between! I think I'm going to be writing letters to the higher ups...

  22. We are searching hard to buy products only made in the USA.
It is very difficult at times to understand their lingo and ways around not saying where it is made. I will rather go hungry than purchase products from China.
How easily we forget what they did to the baby formula and dog food. Please operate and manufacture your products in the USA. I will pay more.

  23. Furthermore, please get a hold of the "all powerful" FDA and do their job on protecting us. Products should be clearly labeled "Made in the USA" with a flag.
